Sacred Lancers
This is the first squad of minis I’ve painted in a long time. They have very dynamic poses, so I spend a bit of extra time building the bases to raise them up and accentuate the silhouette.
The colour of the armour was achieved by glazing from an ochre brown to a cream through desert yellow. I wanted the cloth to look like a rich velvet, so I applied the highlights with some stippled pattern. The gold is Green Stuff World's Antique Gold Metal Pigment, which it the best-looking metallic gold I have come across.
I rarely do freehand work, and I spent quite a while trying to figure out what to paint on the battle standard. I was playing the video game Pentiment at the time, in which the main character is a medieval manuscript artist, so I combined religious illumination with the autumnal look to add some storytelling about these holy knights.
